Bryne not saying anything says a lot.

( Gave up on trying to sleep. Some asshole is running a belt sander in the next slip.)

There have been more rumors than you can count going around lately about the future of Croom and the football program. Everybody is hearing something. A lot of times what one guy heard completely contradicts what this other guy heard. So we have heard a little of everything.

Except one thing.

And that one thing is this. We have heard nothing from State AD Greg Byrne.

The more I thought about it, the more I thought this might be a good thing.

Bryne could have come out publicly and said "Hey, listen, Sly Croom is gonna be coaching here next year no matter what. Let's just put all these rumors to rest."

Now after yesterday, he may come out and say that this week. Who knows?

But he hasn't said that. Why?

To me Bryne's silence speaks a lot. If he knew Croom was gonna be back next season it would make sense just to come out and say it.

Kill the rumors and just move on.

I wouldn't expect him to come out and say he was firing Croom until the season was over.

But it would be reasonable to expect him to come out and say Croom would be back.

Therefore, in my opinion, Mr. Byrne is not committed to what he is going to do, one way or the other, right now. Which means Croom isn't guaranteed to be back.

I expect the win over Arkansas has tipped the scales in Croom's favor. I also think Croom will be back next year. Personally, I think that's a mistake, but that's what I see happening.

So we wait for Mr. Byrne to speak. He may tomorrow or he may not. He will speak when he gets ready.

But until then, I'm putting a lot more hope in what I'm not hearing, more than I am in what I'm hearing.
